Calling all thrillseekers!

Alton Towers is over 500 acres of adrenaline-filled roller coasters, amazing attractions and rib-tickling rides that the whole family can enjoy.

The biggest and arguably the best theme park in the UK, Alton Towers is the ultimate place to visit for unique and exhilarating rides. The park is hugely popular with thrill-seekers and families, young and old, brave souls and 'scaredy cats'.

For anyone looking to raise their heart rate on some of the fastest most creative coasters in the world, Alton Towers will not disappoint. The big five crowd pleasures are all vastly different and brilliant. You have Oblivion, the world's first vertical roller coaster that is also completely terrifying. You will hover over the edge before plummeting into the darkness!

Air, unlike any other ride, gives you the chance to fly inches from the ground. Lying face down, travelling at dizzying speed through trees before gliding into a series of twists and turns. For real speed head over the Queen of Speed - Rita. Rita is an extreme ride that shoots passengers up to 60mph in just over 2 seconds, with G-force greater than a shuttle launch. Look out for your photo at the end for some hilarious snaps to keep as a souvenir.

Nemesis is electric series of corkscrews and loops combined with face distorting speed, heart-pounding excitement and scary suspended seats.  We won't spoil the fun, however be prepared to leave with a very big smile indeed.

If the British weather behaves and you want to make use of your waterproof jackets, The Bathtub Flume along with the Congo River Rapids are two of the most enjoyable ways to get soaked in Alton Towers. For the younger members in your group the Runaway Mine ride is great fun, as is the Ice Age 4D Cinema. The kids will love the chance to make plenty of friends to be made in Storybook Land and with the beautiful underwater creatures in the Sea Life Sharkbait Reef.

Handy Alton Tower Tips

Alton Towers is a large theme park so it can take some time to cover the whole park. Please ensure that you wear comfortable footwear.

It's a good idea to plan your visit and map out the main rides you want to go on before arriving. Combined with the distance to cover between zones and the queues you might have to wait in, you may not have time to experience all the rides in one day.

British weather is unpredictable at the best of times, even in summer, so it is a good idea to bring a warm, waterproof jacket or coat.

Food within the park can be expensive so budget accordingly or better yet, pack a picnic. There are plenty of picnic facilities to enjoy when the time comes to feed the thrill-seekers.

If you plan to go to the water themed rides, go when it's warm so you dry off quicker or leave it till near the end of your visit as you will get wet. Handily, Alton Towers provide driers for a small charge.

Please note: Height restrictions apply for certain rides.

Alton Towers is usually open from mid-March through to the end of October.
